Space to live.  A number of families are living in caravans, demountable buildings and sheds.  Refurbishing these buildings and constructing small toilet / shower / laundry buildings is an ongoing need to help people who have moved back  to their land.

Relief manning.  There are opportunities to provide some respite for locals by volunteering in community kitchens such as the Kinglake Cafe, recovery centres (unpacking and distributing donated items – there are still around 60 people a day coming through one of the centres in Yarra Glen).

 

Fencing.  There is an ongoing requirement for fences to be rebuilt to secure livestock and property. The Victorian Farmers Federation have played a role to coordinate fencing activities, and various groups auspiced by them still need volunteers.

Clearing blocks.  Global Care is coordinating  a wide range of support activities such as clearing (non-asbestos) debris from blocks; cutting up and removing felled trees; and helping to make the portable cabins which have been built in Kinglake feel a little more homely. Global Care requires volunteers ranging from people to pot plants through to qualified arborists, from trades through to people who can listen or lend a hand.
